    This article explains how Music Vine artists should save, title and package their files prior to submitting them.

    Legal requirements

    • You must ensure that any samples or loops used within your music are appropriately licensed. You are legally responsible for the assets you use.
    • Please review the Artist Agreement to ensure you're aware of all submission rules and are complying to them.

     



    Versions accepted

    Every submission must include a ‘Main Version’ (a complete mix with an introduction and an ending). Music Vine accepts Main Versions between the lengths of 15 seconds and 10 minutes. The license prices for your music will be dictated by the length of the Main Version.

    In addition to the Main Version, we encourage all our artists to include additional assets (alternative versions, short clips, loops and stems) wherever possible as this can greatly enhance the versatility and commercial appeal of the music. Below is a summary of the additional, optional assets that Music Vine can accept:

    • Alternative Versions – These are variations of the ‘Main Version’ which may feature a different musical arrangement or mix-style. Examples include an ‘Instrumental’ version of a track with vocals or an ‘Acoustic-Only’ version of a pop song.
    • Short Clips – Condensed edits typically at set durations of 15, 30 and/or 60 seconds. These are specifically intended for broadcast and online advertising and, like the Main Version, should include a form of introduction and ending.
    • Loops – An excerpt/edit which can loop seamlessly. Video editors use these as building blocks to customise the sound-track to their requirements.
    • Stems - A sub-mix of a group of related instruments, as extracted directly from the Main Version. Stems should have exactly the same duration as the Main Version, so that when all stems are combined in video editing software, the Main Version can essentially be recreated. Consider which stems may be most useful for filmmakers. Common examples of stems are Drums & Percussion, Lead Vocals, Strings, Piano etc.    




    Preparing your files

    As a high-end music library, consistency and clarity in how customers receive files from Music Vine is crucial. Please ensure your files are named and structured as per the following instructions.

    All file titles must be in lower-case and the only non-alphabetical character permitted is a hyphen (“-“).

    All files must be 44.1 kHz 16-Bit stereo.


    Main Version (required)

    Format required: WAV

    Titling convention: “track-name-artist-name-main-version-duration”

    e.g redemption-song-bob-marley-main-version-2-37.wav

     

    Alternative Versions (optional)

    Format required: WAV

    Titling convention: “track-name-artist-name-version-title-duration”

    e.g redemption-song-bob-marley-instrumental-2-37.wav

     

    Short Clips (recommended)

    Format required: WAV

    Titling convention: “track-name-artist-name-short-duration”

    e.g redemption-song-bob-marley-short-0-15.wav

     

    Loops (recommended)

    Format required: WAV

    Titling convention: “track-name-artist-name-loop-ref-duration” * ‘ref’ refers to sequential lettering for each loop file (example a, b, c, d, e, etc)

    Stems (recommended)

    Format required: WAV

    Titling convention: “track-name-artist-name-stem-stemtype-duration”

    Packaging your files

    Main file-set – We require your main file and any/all other assets to be packaged in a single ZIP folder. The ZIP folder must be titled as follows:

    Main folder (.zip) title convention: “track-name-artist-name”

    e.g “redemption-song-bob-marley.zip”

    If you are including additional assets along with the Main Version, you should place these in corresponding folders within the main ZIP folder – the names of these folders should be as follows:

    > “main-version”

    > “alternative-versions”

    > “short-clips”

    > “loops”

    > "stems"

    If you are not including additional assets, the Main Version file can sit within the main ZIP folder (i.e there’s no need to create the “main-version” folder).




    Submit your music!

    Once you have prepared and packaged your files, you’re ready to upload and submit your music. Please follow the steps on the Submit Approved Music form – providing thorough and accurate details will help us ensure your new track is given optimum exposure and categorisation.
