Our policy on AI use in Music Vine submissions

Here at Music Vine our priority is to represent the creativity of our artist community and champion the rights of music creators everywhere. 

As AI music tools continue to evolve and raise new questions around ownership and fair use, we want to offer some guidelines around the use of AI in your own music submissions.

What we cannot accept ⛔ 

• We cannot accept music that is fully generated by AI. We want our catalog to be driven by the creativity and talent of the artists we work with, not AI systems.
• We cannot accept music created using AI services & tools which may have been trained on copyrighted works without the original creator’s consent. Until there is further clarity around their legal status, even partial use of these tools (e.g. for creating  samples) is not permitted.

What we can accept ✅ 

• ‘AI powered’ plugins that assist with specific aspects of the production process - such as mixing or mastering - are OK.
• In some cases, certain AI tools may be permitted if they have been explicitly trained on opt-in data - meaning all contributors have given clear consent - and only if they constitute a smaller part of your workflow. At present, tools that meet ethical training standards and provide clear licensing permissions are less common, so we strongly encourage you to review the tool’s terms of service carefully before using them in your work.

Looking ahead 

We are currently exploring new AI detection tools for approved music and will ask artists to share their AI use within their track submission forms.

We want to reassure you that these measures are not about ‘catching out’ artists or assuming bad intent. They are simply part of how we navigate a rapidly changing landscape responsibly - helping us protect the rights of all creators and ensure that the music in our catalog stays true to our values; authentic, artist-led, and ethically made. 

We may need to adapt our policy as AI technology and laws evolve - so we'd recommend checking this page periodically.
